Stanley Bailey Exploded Parts Diagram
- At the peak of their world wide popularity the bench plane range stretched from sizes #1 through to #8 with additional intermediate sizes such as #4-1/2 and #5-1/2.
- Presumably to protect themselves from copies, Stanley used relatevely obscure threads such as handle and knob mounting screws made from 13/64 inch drill rod and UNC12-20 threads.
- The adjusting blade feed wheel and lead screw have a 9/32" 24tpi American/Unified left-hand thread.
- Many components are common across the bench plane range - patterns #3 through #8
- Unfortunately Y levers and lateral adjusters - parts 7 and 9 below - are unavailable separately
- At time of these notes - 2024 - complete frog kits are now discontinued (at least in the Australian market)
- Large handle & knob kits in plastic remain available.
- OEM compatible Handle & Knobs, back irons and blades are available
- When their patents expired there were numerous other makers who cloned much of the range. Most maintained the Stanley threads.
- In recent times Stanley have started to use metric threads on some components.
- Be advised we get certain parts made to order - #3, #8 and LH lead Screw, #13, #14 and #15 all with Stanley's original thread specifications.
- We get made to order #3 back iron screws which are slighly longer to accomodate thicker higher quality OEM blades
