An in cannell or scribing gouge is an essential tool for recessing round pieces such as baluster posts.

Note: The knowledge of the radius and diameter of the outer cutting edge of these scribing gouges is an essential requirement when choosing a chisel. Curiously this information is not readily available from Kirschen data sheets or catalogues. We have measured as best we can but please be advised the table below is not an official Kirschen specification and variations occur. These blades will be drop forged and not machine ground so dimensions are somewhat nominal.
