The ideal device for knife makers and collectors to evaluate different steels and grinding types, as well as for all sharpeners of tools and knives who want to improve their sharpening results by means of repeatable evaluation. This device can also be used for simple test series to check whether and by what means a burr that has formed after sharpening can be effectively removed by polishing. Fast results, easy to use.

PT50A:
  • Industrial load sensor and scale
  • High processing power with 1 gram measurement accuracy
  • Robust steel platform.

Edge-on-up sharpness testers make the term »sharpness« scientifically measurable and comparable. For this purpose, a kind of »precision scale« measures the maximum pressure in grams required during a test cutting process to cut through a standardised medium (plastic wire). The lower the pressure needed to cut through, the sharper the edge. The required pressure can then be classified on a scale (BESS). A new razor blade, for example, has a BESS value of 50 g, while a kitchen knife that needs resharpening has a value of about 400 g.

BESS stands for »Brubacher Edge Sharpness Scale«, named after the manufacturer and inventor Mike Brubacher.
