Solid Brass Nuts, Bolts, Set Screws & Washers

There are many circumstances such as in rust prone environments or for reasons of appearance where solid brass fasteners are called for.

We offer Solid Brass Set Screws (which differ from a bolt because they are threaded along their full length), in Hex Head, Countersunk Head and Cheese Head, plain Hex Nuts, Nylon Lock Nuts, Dome or Acorn Nuts and Washers to suit all sizes.

Metric Thread Descriptors - Metric fasteners are denominated in millimetres by their thread diameter and thread pitch, the distance between threads. For example an M5 x 0.8 nut is a standard 5mm metric coarse thread with a 0.8mm pitch (note there are other less often used metric standards - metric fine and metric very fine - but by default M5 means coarse standard metric 5mm).

Note that by worldwide convention, screws and bolts are described by nominal size - for example an M10 screw is nominally M10 in diameter and will in fact be a clearance fit for a 10mm hole.

Standards - Our metric fasteners are made to DIN standards and are based on the metric system  - DIN is an acronym for the German standards institute. These remain popularly quoted and referenced. The EN (European Norm) is another more recent European based standard. There are numerous standards bodies around the world - it it common when describing fasteners to see references to British standards such as British Association (BA), British Standard Whitworth (BSW) and North American Unified Coarse (UNC) or Unified Fine (UNF) standards which use inches and fractions of an inch e.g 3/8ths of an inch. A further complication is that the UNC standard for fasteners smaller than 1/4 inch uses gauges (reference AWG - American wire gauge). This means that a setscrew, which in Australia we are happy to describe as a 3/16th inch, will be described in the USA as a 10-24, i.e gauge 10 with 24 teeth to the inch.

  • Internal / External Thread - the standard machine thread of the fastener.
  • High - The height in mm of the nut - there are dome, full, half and slim nut versions
  • A/F or Head D - the mm measurement across the flats of the hex nut or screw or diameter of head for cheese styles.
  • DIN - The Standard the fastener adheres to.
  • O/D - outside diameter with reference to washers.
  • I/D - inside diameter with reference to washers.
