The Wood Works supplies a range of PVA glues to suit the majority of woodworking applications. We offer industrial strength products in a range of convenient packaging sizes from 250mls to 20 litres. Our smaller containers are fitted with resealable "witches hat" spouts. Because of our turnover you need never be concerned about the freshness of the glue. We supply quality Australian made product which is not sourced via a lowest possible supply price such as is demanded by large hardware chains and which therefore often inevitably determines a lower quality.

This means industrial quality, fresh product, reasonable pricing and delivered to your letter box hassle free and without the costs of travel.

PVA glues revolutionised the woodworking adhesive market when invented in the years following World War 2. We market the latest technology in PVA glues including a classic yellow grade, a highly useful slow, hard cure grade with high sandability and a single pack crosslinking grade for the strongest bond available.

PVA's wash up in water, are mailable (not classed as dangerous goods) and have very low OH&S cautions compared to many other adhesive options.

STORAGE & USEFUL LIFE

Store out of the sun, sealed, in a cool, dark environment but do not allow to freeze. Keep sealed when not in use and squeeze the bottle where possible to remove as much air as possible from the part used container. Note: We can supply spare sealing caps, witches hats and empty smaller bottles which allow for longer storage life. Click HERE.

Manufacturers are notoriously conservative when stipulating use-by dates for two reasons, one to avoid glue failures in service and the other is to keep sales steady. We recommend a limit of 24 months for these PVA's assuming they have been stored with care. It is simply not worth the risk to use an old glue on a project you have spent a long time on or for an application for which the glueing must not fail.

APPLICATION & USE

The resistance to being periodically rained on suggests the Cross Linking PVA as ideal for a low toxicity outdoor glue, the ability of the Yellow glue to glue relatively waxy or "oily" surfaces suggest its use for Australian hardwoods (this glue was developed for use with MDF board which can have such a waxy surface) and the slow hard cure PVA is the perfect choice for when you need assembly time and sandability such as pressing together dovetailed or finger jointed surfaces.

Where rapid cure speed and minimal clamp time is desired either the Yellow or Cross Linking are indicated.

Clarification Notes

Viscosity - measured in centipoise. The higher the value the higher the viscosity. Influenced by ambient temperature. Water = 1

Open time - time within which surfaces should be brought together. Influenced by ambient temperature & humidity, workpiece porosity.

Cure time - assumes no spring back in workpiece. Allow longer time if so.

Creep - the tendency of the glue line to telegraph due to workpiece differential movement or shrinkage.

Sandability - softer PVA's sand poorly and clog paper. Harder cure PVA's sand well.

Waterproof - a practical measure of the glue's ability to be used out doors. Note: The Australian standard for a waterproof glue would not be met by any of these PVA's.

Shock resistance - a measure of the glue to withstand shock loads

Dissimilar materials - in this context means gluing metals and materials other than those that are wood based. Note: Cardboards, cloth etc are effectively glued by these products.
